DLP's chamber: No. 548, A Block, High Court, Lucknow
What the law says
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is a specialised unit of the State police. In Uttar Pradesh it investigates cases such as large frauds, cheating, criminal breach of trust, deposit and investment schemes, and other financial offences referred to it. It follows the BNSS like any police unit, so the usual rights on notice, arrest, custody and bail apply. Bail and anticipatory bail are decided on the facts, including the nature of the allegations and the amount involved.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the EOW different from the CBI?
The EOW is part of the State police and investigates cases within the State. The CBI is a central agency under the DSPE Act that investigates notified offences, generally with State consent or on a court's direction.
What documents should I gather?
Agreements, invoices, bank statements, correspondence, board or partnership records and anything that shows how the money moved and why.
Can I seek anticipatory bail in an EOW case?
Yes, the usual remedies under the BNSS are available. The court weighs the allegations, the material and the person's conduct.
I invested in a scheme that failed. Can I complain?
Yes. You can file a complaint with the police or EOW with your receipts and records. Depending on the scheme, other laws, such as the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019, may also apply.
