Criminal & Cyber Law
Cyber Crime & Digital Fraud
Reporting online fraud, hacking and harassment, preserving evidence, and pursuing the complaint.
DLP's chamber: No. 548, A Block, High Court, Lucknow
What the law says
Cyber offences are dealt with under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the BNS, for example cheating, identity theft, unauthorised access and online harassment. Financial fraud should be reported at once to the national helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in, and to your bank, so that the transaction can be flagged while funds may still be traceable. An FIR can be registered at a police station or cyber police station. Keep screenshots, URLs, transaction references and phone numbers. Whether money is recovered depends on the facts and on how quickly it is reported.
