Landlord & Tenant Disputes

Tenancy agreements, rent, eviction and deposits under the Uttar Pradesh tenancy law.

DLP's chamber: No. 548, A Block, High Court, Lucknow

What the law says

Urban tenancies in Uttar Pradesh are governed by the Uttar Pradesh Regulation of Urban Premises Tenancy Act, 2021, which requires tenancy agreements in writing and provides for a Rent Authority and Rent Tribunal to decide disputes. The Act sets out the grounds on which a landlord can seek eviction, such as non-payment of rent, subletting without consent or misuse of the premises, and governs rent revision and security deposits. Tenancies created before the Act and certain premises may have transitional rules. A landlord should not cut off essential supplies or dispossess a tenant without due process.
