Service Matters
Disputes of government employees over discipline, promotion, pay and pension before tribunals and the High Court.
DLP's chamber: No. 548, A Block, High Court, Lucknow
What the law says
Service disputes of Central Government employees are generally heard by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which has a Lucknow Bench, under the Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985. Disputes of Uttar Pradesh State employees can be taken to the U.P. State Public Services Tribunal. Other employees of public bodies may approach the High Court under Article 226. Common matters include disciplinary proceedings, suspension, dismissal, seniority, promotion, pay fixation, transfers and pension. Departmental remedies, such as an appeal or representation, are usually exhausted first. Orders of the tribunals can be challenged before the High Court.

Must I use departmental remedies first?
Generally yes. The tribunal ordinarily expects the employee to have availed the appeal or representation available under the service rules, unless that remedy is ineffective.
Is there a time limit?
